2. The New Residence of the Swiss Embassy, NY - Steven Holl (image)

4. Spa, Switzerland - Curiosity Design (image)
5. New Synagogue, Germany - Wandel, Hofer, Lorch & Hirsch (image)

Following on from yesterday's post, here are some images of translucent materials that inspire me.

Isn't it funny how the first two buildings - by different architects - are so similar? Look at the printed text on the glass in the third building - it's just what my project is all about! (Although I will be using this idea on a much smaller, more personal level inside a building). The silk and linen screens in the final two photos are so calming and serene. I like the quality of light filtered through soft, natural materials like these.

My goodness, these are amazing. You're right, they are serene, but also very futuristic too. I can just imagine the elegant Martians from 'The Martian Chronicles' walking around in these environments:) I love all of them, most especially the library, the reflecting pool and the synagogue.

Thank you for your wonderful comments, I always look forward to them (and your posts). That information about vintage in England and how it relates to the Second World War is so interesting. I love it when I find out something like that and it makes things in my own life make more sense. Vintage is expensive in New York too. Many of the shops there have great quality stuff, but there are so many people looking for it in big cities. Often here, you find the most interesting garments in small thrift stores in small towns where nobody's really interested. Its like my mother said to my sister and I the last time I was home and we went thrifting, 'I think its great that you girls take these clothes and make them your own, but when I look at them, all I see is my mother and her sisters.'

I hope you have a great day.
